Trane Electric System FAQs
If it’s an “Electric System,” where does the heat come from?
Trane electric systems use a component called heat strips. These heat strips warm the air in the air handler. Then the air gets distributed throughout the ductwork.
Is the heat “dry” like a gas furnace?
Yes. The electric heat from the system is dry, similar to a standard gas furnace. It won’t add moisture to indoor air. You can also experience even heating.
Will my winter electric bill be higher than with a heat pump?
Typically, yes. Electric systems heat the air directly to generate heat. Since it needs more energy to warm the air, the electric bill will be higher than that of a heat pump. Heat pumps generally move the energy instead and thus consume less energy.
What is the difference between 14.3, 15.2, and 16 SEER2 if they all use the same heat strips?
The SEER2 rating only measures cooling efficiency, not heating. All three systems use the same electric heat strips for winter, but the higher SEER2 models (15.2, 16) will use less electricity for cooling and run more quietly and efficiently during the summer.
Does “Free Installation” include the electrical work for the heat strips?
The free installation includes the labor cost. It includes all the modifications required without adding extra parts. If you need any extra parts or components, they will be included separately in the quote.
Is an electric system safer than a gas system?
Yes. An electric system doesn’t use gas or a combustion method. So, there’s no risk of gas leaks or carbon monoxide poisoning.
How long does a Trane electric system usually last?
With proper installation and maintenance, Trane Electric Systems typically last 15-20 years.
